FAQ
1) How long will it take to get the permit?
Most municipalities are mandated to issue a residential building permit in 10
business days providing that a complete application has been submitted.
2) Is a survey of my property necessary?
Although a survey is not generally necessary, information from a current survey
is required to create a site plan.
3) Can my application for a building permit be rejected?
No, if all the conditions are met, a permit will be issued.
4) How long does it take to complete my drawings?
It depends on the project; any where from a few days to a couple weeks.
5) How can I save money on my drawings?
Prepare your design as much as you can ahead of time. If you are doing an
addition have the following information available: Dimensions of all rooms,
dimensions and types of all windows, dimensions and types of all doors, existing
insulation in exterior walls, existing attic insulation., a current survey, sketches of
proposed addition, sketches of your design ideas, furnace type, furnace intake
and outlet sizes.
6) What size are my drawings?
Crowhurst Design uses Arch C (18” x 24) scaled drawings unless smaller
drawings are requested.
7) What drawings do building departments usually require?
2 copies of: Site Plan, Floor Plans, Elevations, Wall Sections, & Framing Plans
8) What other departments should I contact as well as the building department?
It is a good idea to contact the Engineering & By-Law Departments in your local
municipality.
9) Will I need a structural engineer?
Possibly, if it is necessary, Crowhurst Design will arrange it.
10) Will I need HVAC drawings?
It depends entirely on the nature of the project.
11) Will I need Heat Loss/Gain calculations?
It depends entirely on the nature of the project.
12) Can you apply for the permit on my behalf?
Yes, Crowhurst Design charges a fee for permit application submission.
13) When is the final payment required for my drawings?
As soon as you receive your completed signed drawings and signed Schedule 1,
final payment is required.
